Frequently Asked Questions:

How does the Solea® laser work?

Solea® lasers utilize a unique infrared wavelength that reacts with water, CO2, and enamel in a way that essentially vaporizes the hard and soft tissues in the mouth. It also simultaneously seals off your blood vessels and nerves. Simply stated, this means that the laser stream can produce precise, fast, and pain-free cuts with little to no bleeding. In addition, the Solea® laser does not produce any noise or vibrations as it works, meaning your dental treatment will be quieter than traditional dental treatments.

What dental treatments can Solea® be used for?

Solea® works by cutting enamel, gum, and bone. Therefore it can be used for procedures requiring this type of alteration. Such procedures can include:

  • Fillings
  • Gingivectomies
  • Frenectomies
  • Crown lengthenings
  • Removing tooth decay
  • Uncovering partially erupted wisdom teeth
  • Removing swollen tissues or inflamed periodontal pockets
  • Removing canker sores or fibromas

Can Solea® be used on children?

Yes! Since Solea® lasers are faster and avoid the use of needles and drills, they are ideal for treating children. Solea® will allow Dr. Speer to complete multiple procedures at once, if needed, quickly and without pain. Plus, since no anesthetic is needed, children can return to school and normal activities directly after treatment.

What should I expect during my Solea® treatment?

During your Solea® treatment, Dr. Speer will provide you with protective eyewear to wear. Then, he will insert the laser and complete the necessary procedure. You may feel some air or a cool mist from the water used with the laser, but no pain or discomfort. Most procedures can be completed in a matter of minutes. Once your procedure is complete, you will be able to resume all your normal activities and will have no feelings of lingering numbness.

Does Solea® dental laser treatment hurt?

Patients generally describe dental laser treatment as being more comfortable than traditional dental treatment. In addition, anesthetic is rarely needed for laser treatments because it does not cause the same degree of discomfort as other dental procedures. In fact, most patients report feeling nothing during treatment. However, some individuals may feel a cold sensation.

Is Solea® laser treatment safe?

Yes. Solea® dental lasers is the first CO2 dental laser to be approved by the FDA as a safe treatment for the teeth and gums. Solea® laser treatment also has a lower risk for bacterial infections due to the precise nature of its treatment.
